Last year when a non-profit signed a contract with our agency, we set some specific goals to help reach their organization's overall goals. Those goals included:
One of my favorite things about a new year is a fresh clean calendar, some new pens and highlighters and plenty of crisp, blank paper. It’s the thought of starting fresh, with new energy and expectation for the new year that excites me! I’ve written many times about my disdain for New Year’s resolutions, because who keeps those? However, I’m a firm believer in goals broken down into action steps. And new office supplies. Together those two can rule the world.
My husband loves to play Words with Friends. I stopped playing years ago because I’m too competitive and really didn’t want to put the time and effort into playing well. I wanted to see what letters I had, throw up a word and move on to the next thing. My husband on the other hand looks at the board from all angles. He studies word placement options, letters he has and what one additional letter could mean to his deck. He thinks about what opportunities he might create for his opponent if he plays a specific word in a specific place. He creates a strategy and as a result he wins a majority of the games he plays.
If public speaking 101 sent shivers down your spine, Facebook Live may be your undoing. Unlike most of my peers, I loved “speech” class, but for many other students it was a get done and get out kind of class. Maybe my interest in broadcasting had something to do with that. Any who, video is thriving on Facebook and other social media platforms. Earlier this year the most used social platform implemented Facebook Live allowing you to live broadcast, well, anything. But just because you can do it shouldn’t mean you should do it.
As a kid, the dollar store had a $1 grab bag near the register that my sister and I always begged our mom to buy. (I only wish they looked like the bags in this picture!) The unassuming brown paper bag held unknown treasures, much like your website analytics. Hiding behind all those numbers is a wealth of information, but it really only scratches the surface of what’s available for your organization to identify visitors to your site.
When I think of storytelling, I envision a grey haired man with a long beard and tall walking stick who told rambling stories of characters who may or may not have existed to groups of middle and high school students twenty years ago. While this man’s stories may have, for a short while, captured the attention of those Gen X teens, he’s not what Millennials think about when it comes to storytelling.
If you’re talking about the cup holders in your car, stickiness isn’t a good thing. If you’re talking about your website, you’ve probably heard the term used in a more positive manner. Stickiness, when it comes to your website, measures how likely someone is to spend more time on your site. Google Analytics doesn’t have a sticky website metric, but it does measure your bounce rate, which is the opposite of a stickiness factor.
As organizations look to reach the Millennial generation, many are looking to Instagram as their media of choice.
